Northeast Iowa Community College is scheduling more Lead Safe Work Practices classes in response to new mandates by the Iowa Department of Public Health. Participants who complete the program successfully may apply to the Iowa Department of Public Health for Lead Safe Renovator Certification, which is required for anyone who does work on residential properties and child occupied facilities that were built before 1978.
NICC offers an 8-hour course that includes a lecture, lab and test for individuals seeking LSR Certification. The college is also offering a 4-hour refresher course for those who have previously earned their certificate. All general contractors, self-employed contractors, landlords, painters, plumbers and electricians are encouraged to enroll in either class offering to stay compliant with health department regulations. The 4-hour refresher course is required every three years to maintain the LSR certification.
8-hour classes will be offered May 27th, June 10th, July 8th and August 12th at the NICC Calmar Campus Industrial Tech Room 105A. 4-hour refresher classes will be offered June 10th, July 8th and August 12th from 5:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. in the same location.
