Experts say no need to spray yet for emerald ash borers

State forestry officials are telling Northeast Iowa residents they do not need to take insecticide control measures against emerald ash borers--even though they have been found in northeast Allamakee County.

State officials say, "due to the isolated incidence and associated remote terrain of the infested site, treatment in Iowa is still not recommended at this time."

The forestry officials say protecting ash trees with insecticides is a long-term commitment, with treatments reapplied annually or twice per year for an interminable number of years to protect the tree.  State officials say it might be better to just remove and replace susceptible trees.
