Members of the City of Decorah's Streets Committee have another month to think over cost estimates presented to them by City Engineer Lindsay Erdman about the Trout run Trail bridge over Highway 9.

City officials have been studying three options--a 280 foot two span truss bridge, a 240 foot three to four span concrete bridge and a 240 foot arch bridge.

Some have said the blue arch bridge would be a striking statement about the recreational trail.  But figures presented by Erdman suggest the arch bridge would have a $400,000 higher price tag than the other options.  Part of the higher cost is the higher cost of maintenance, which would include periodically repainting the arch and railings.

But a committee looking at ways to promote Decorah has asked for more time to figure out if it is possible to raise the additional $400,000.  City Street Committee Chair Gary Rustad says in order to stick to the proposed schedule for construction of the bridge, his committee would need to make its recommendation on June 21st.
