Four South Winneshiek students are helping to publicize the upcoming NE Iowa WWII Honor Tour. South Winneshiek Middle School students Devin Franzen, Jessica Lechtenberg, Mahogani Boe and Chris Brincks, with the help of South Winn teachers Kristin Kriener and Rebecca Hanna, create a website for the NE Iowa WWII Honor Tour.
Four WWII veterans from Winneshiek County--Roy Snyder, Gil Egge, Mert Iverson and Bernard Neuzil--will be traveling on a 5 day bus trip to Washington, D.C., in September to see the Memorial built in their honor, 59 years after the war ended.
The four are part of a group of 21 WWII veterans from the 5 county area making the trip September 20th through the 24th. The veterans will see the WWII Memorial and other memorials and will lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery.
Fundraising is about to get underway in the 5 county area so that these veterans can travel at no cost to them. This trip is not connected with the Honor Flights.
