Winneshiek Medical Center generates 660 jobs that add over 25 million dollars to Northeast Iowa's economy, according to the latest study by the Iowa Hospital Association. The study also says Winneshiek Medical Center employees spend $6,654,060 on retail sales and contribute $399,244 in state sales tax revenue.
The IHA study examined the jobs, income, retail sales and sales tax produced by hospitals and the state's health care sector. The study was compiled from data on the American Hospital Association's Annual Survey of Hospitals and with software that other industries have used to determine their economic impact.
Winneshiek Medical Center Chief Administrative Officer Dan Werner says, "Though the future of health care is uncertain on a national scale, Winneshiek Medical Center will continue to be a strong contributor to the local economy by providing jobs, supporting retail sales and contributing to sales tax revenue."
