The Decorah High School Community Club and Student Council have begun raising $17,000 to help bring a mobile packing unit from "Feed My Starving Children" to Decorah this fall. The unit would allow Decorah residents to hand-pack meals formulated specially for starving children to be shipped to nearly 70 countries around the world.
The high school students have begun selling tubes of mini M&M's donated by Donlon Pharmacy for $1.00. Students and staff are then encouraged to fill the empty container with quarters and return them to the high school office. The $14.00 in quarters that the containers hold will feed 82 people. Donations of any amount are welcomed and appreciated.
Sophomore Gabriel Eide is spearheading the project. "I can't believe how well the high school is responding to this fundraiser," he said. "The mission of Decorah Feeds 100,000 is to provide an opportunity for an intergenerational event with people working side by side in fundraising activities and packing meals to feed starving people around the world. I just want to let people know that I'm always looking for organizations that are willing to partner in this project." You can contact Eide at decorahfeeds100000@gmail.com.
Community Club advisor Liz Fox added, "Once again, the students at DHS are stepping up to help those in need. Gabriel has done a remarkable job generating support for this project, and Community Club and Student Council are happy to help out. Our hope is that siblings and parents of our students can chip in to fill the M&M containers. We appreciate the generosity of all who contribute."
Donations will be accepted in the high school office until the end of May. Questions can be directed to Liz Fox at the high school.
