Winneshiek County response to U.S. Census is higher than national, state averages

The U.S. Census Bureau has announced that 84 percent of households in Winneshiek County have returned their 2010 Census forms.

The Upper Midwestern states continue to lead in Census response rates.  81 percent of the Census forms have been returned in Wisconsin; 80 percent in Minnesota; 78 percent in Iowa and Indiana and 77 percent in Michigan.

In Winneshiek County Jackson Junction had the best participation rate, with 93 percent of residents filling out Census forms. Other Winneshiek County communities and their participation rates are Spillville (89 percent); Decorah (86 percent); Castalia (85 percent); Ossian and Fort Atkinson (each 82 percent); Ridgeway (77 percent) and Calmar (70 percent).
