This is National Volunteer Week. The celebration honors the individuals who dedicate themselves to taking action and solving problems in their communities.
Two Decorah organizations are joining in the observance. Volunteers for the Northeast Iowa RSVP program devoted 17,866 hours of service to area non-profit groups in northeast Iowa.
RSVP volunteers are being invited to an indoor picnic during National Volunteer Week. Also In celebration of the 37th annual National Volunteer Week, the American Cancer Society is recognizing its volunteers. They include Georgiann Eckheart and Janice Meyer, the co-chairs of the local Relay for Life observance. "We volunteer for the American Cancer Society because cancer has touched everyone in some way including ourselves and our families," said Georgiann & Janice, longtime American Cancer Society volunteers & Relay For Life co-chairs. "To help others in their fight against cancer is truly humbling."
