Police warn of scam

The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department says letters stamped "Prize Winning Payout" have been mailed to several area residents.

The letters ask the recipients to deposit the enclosed checks in their local bank, then send a money order to a third party in London.  Winneshiek County sheriff's Deputies say the letters are a scam.  They want local residents not to initiate any contact with the company.
