Nine Decorah students have earned the right to compete at the International Conference of the Future Problem Solving program this June at the University of wisconsin-La Crosse.
The nine were among 23 Decorah students who brought home lots of trophies from the State FPS Bowl held at Iowa State University on Friday and Saturday. The sixth grade Junior Division team of Naomi Davidson, Kalle Solberg, Payton Stock, and Timothy Winter placed first in the packet-writing contest. The ninth grade Middle Division team of Lucas Blekeberg, Shana Kelly, Paul Sullivan and Shelby Varney placed second of 27 teams and earned a second straight bid to the International Conference. This group, with the addition of individual participants Eric Fulsaas and Catrina Bruns, received a first place trophy for the presentation of their action plan. Kristen Flak will be participating in the individual component at the summer conference, after placing 2nd at state. This will be Kristen's fourth appearance at I.C. Last year Kristen placed sixth in the Senior Individual competition at the International Conference.
Senior Division participants Carolina Deifelt Streese, Scotty Hendricks, Aaron Kvale, and Jonathon Winter placed third (of 15 teams) in the written portion of the competition, just missing a bid to International. In addition, Carolina, Aaron, Jonathon, and Kristen placed third in the action plan presentation. Also receiving trophies were Maggie Breitenstein, Brianna Doyle, Andrew Larson, and Annika Wahlberg, whose junior division team placed third in the writing competition and first in the action plan presentation.
