A group called the "Recreational Places and Spaces Initiative" has proposed a $1.4 million facility on the corner of Highway 52 and Pole Line Road on property Luther College will lease to the city.
Plans call for two competition softball fields and one practice field; one competition soccer pitch and a large green space that could host several other soccer matches; a recreational trail; a cross country trail; a concessions stand and restroom; and parking for 190 vehicles.
Luther College has offered a 25-year lease on the property, but has said construction must begin by May 15th, 2011.
REPSI supporters say they are trying to "accomplish as many wins for the community as possible with the fewest dollars possible." They say the current softball fields have issues with pedestrian safety, while the current soccer facilities are scattered throughout the community.
REPSI has already made a presentation to the Decorah City Council and plans to meet soon with the Winneshiek County Board
