Luther graduate joins the staff of the Vienna State Opera

1995 Luther College graduate Eric Melear will join the music staff of the Vienna State Opera, Wiener Staatsoper in September.

Wiener Staatsoper is one of the busiest opera houses in the world, producing around 200 performances of 50 and 60 operas per year.

Melear has prepared more than 40 productions at Houston Grand Opera and Wolf Trap Opera, conducted with both companies and with the L.A. Opera Domingo/Thornton Young Artists. Melear will also conduct Rossini's "Il turco in Italia" with Wolf Trap Opera this summer. This will be his second time conducting a full production for Wolf Trap, after leading a critically acclaimed production of Handel's "Alcina" in 2008.
