One of three bridge designs will be used for the Trout Run Trail to cross Highway 9

City of Decorah officials may have to decide by July on the design of a bridge that will carry Trout Run Trail traffic over Highway 9 near Highway 52.

There are three designs being considered, although the main choice seems to be between a rust-colored bridge and a more expensive but more striking blue arch and cable bridge. The second design would cost an additional $300,000 to $400,000, so city officials have to decide whether the extra cost would be worth it. Trout Run Trail supporters have volunteered to do additional fundraising if the more expensive design is chosen.

City Engineer Lindsay Erdman says the goal is to let the project for bids some time next winter. Construction of the bridge would be done in 2011. The city Street Committee met Monday evening to discuss the steps that will have to be taken in order to complete the project.
