Two Decorah Envirothon teams have qualified for next month's state Envirothon competition.
The defending state champion "Teddy Arctos" team consists of Chance Beard, Scotty Hendricks, Eli Klosteboer, Thomas Locke, Gabe Smith and Sam Zook. The "Enviro Squad" consists of Sarah Brandt, Bethany Davidson, Maddy Johansen, Jonathan Knudson and John Werner.
The ten were among 30 Decorah High School students who were asked to answer test questions dealing with their knowledge of soils, aquatics, forestry and wildlife.
Four of Decorah's six teams finished with scores in the top 15 statewide. Teams that compete at the regionals across Iowa and finish with scores that rank them in the top 15 scores of all teams qualify for the state. However after Decorah High School sent four teams to state competition five years ago a rule was passed limited individuals schools to no more than two teams advancing to state competition.
The winner of the state competition will become Iowa's representative at the national Canon Envirothon held August 1st through August 6th in Fresno, California.
