Mentoring program bowls up some fun

There were high fives, cheering teams, strikes, gutter balls and lots of smiles Saturday at Oneota Lanes at the Helping Services Mentoring Buddies Bowl.

75 bowlers on 18 teams participated. Bowlers were youths and adults from Decorah, Ossian, Ft. Atkinson, Calmar, Postville, Waukon, Cresco, Ridgeway, Waucoma and West Union.

Mentoring programs in Allamakee, Howard and Winneshiek counties offer a mentor who spends at least 4-5 hours of month with a youth ages 5-16. Currently 45 youth are being served, with 19 youth that are waiting to be matched with a mentor.
