Decorah Middle School student Jacob Stock has been notified by the National Geographic Society that he is one of the semifinalists eligible to compete in the 2010 Iowa Geographic Bee.
Jacob was a school-level winner who took a qualifying test and then was selected for the Iowa Geographic Bee by the National Geographic Society based on the results of the qualifying test.
The 2010 Iowa Geographic Bee will be held at Des Moines Area Community College, Ankeny Campus on Friday, April 9th. The state winner will receive $100, the "National Geographic Collegiate Atlas of the World," and a trip to Washington, D.C., where he or she will represent Iowa in the national finals at the National Geographic Society headquarters, May 25th and 26th.
The first-place national winner will receive a $25,000 college scholarship and a lifetime membership in the Society. The national winner will also travel along with one parent to the Galapagos Islands (all expenses paid).
