John Gipp of Decorah has been recognized for serving on the Winneshiek County Fair Board from 1985 to 2009. Gipp is an active farmer and has also been involved with the Winneshiek County Dairy Promoters, the Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce and First United Methodist church.
Wapsie Produce has also been recognized as a "Friend of Agriculture." The local plant was first established on June 20, 1906, by H.H. Woldum. In 1928, it was taken over by the Independence Produce Company and was known as the Decorah Produce Company. Carl Nichols managed the Decorah Produce Co. from 1945 through 1958, when he decided to purchase the Decorah organization and set up a new corporation, known as Wapsie Produce. The business has remained in the Nichols family and has been managed by Carl's sons Marc and Paul and their sons Craig and BJ.
