Ede's & The Angry Pickle Deli opens on Water Street

Ede's and The Angry Pickle Deli opened last week at 213 West Water in downtown Decorah. Owner/chef Mark Rollins has practiced a "soft opening," getting the flow of business, equipment and a new building. Ede's & The Angry Pickle is an expanded version of two previous Decorah dining operations – Ede's Gourmet and The Dayton House. Rollins saw this downtown location as an opportunity to combine into one the two businesses that he had been operating and save himself from continually crossing the street to keep them running.

The new restaurant, at 213 West Water, retains much of the previous two venues, with a gourmet salad bar and sandwiches, soups, carryout offerings, and an upscale dinner menu. But seating is much greater than before. Rollins is also expanding business into breakfast hours, and notes that the menu is shifting more toward a "multi-ethnic" fare than the Scandinavian focus at The Dayton House.

The Angry Pickle name came as a suggestion from Rollins' son Jackson. And a few of the sandwiches include a pickle that lives up to its name.
