The Decorah City Council has rejected a grievance filed by the city employees' union on behalf of a police officer who is retiring.
City officials say the employee in question is a supervisor, which means he isn't covered by the union contract.
At issue are the employee's payments for health insurance. The employee's last day at work will be April 2nd. City officials are asking the retiring employee to pay for the rest of the month of health insurance. They say the practice is one the city has done for over 20 years.
The Decorah City Council voted 7-0 on Monday night to deny the grievance.
