Decorah firefighters were called out shortly after 7:00 p.m. Saturday to the house of Bill Kayser at 609 Locust Road. Kayser had called the fire department with a report of a possible chimney fire.
Upon arrival of the first fire engine, smoke was noted to be coming from the chimney and eaves of the house. Light smoke was found inside the house as well. Fire was found to have extended to the inside walls as well as the outside wall of the house.
The fire was quickly knocked down with an interior attack and the walls and roof were overhauled and checked for further fire extension. No other fire was found.
The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental. No damage amount has been established. One firefighter suffered a slight leg injury due to the icy conditions.
