NICC has begun accepting registrations for a new educational class called "Equine Reproduction and Foaling" The class will be held Tuesday, March 16th, from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. in room 112 of The Dairy Center south of the Northeast Iowa Community College Calmar campus.
Chris Harvey, D.V.M, will present valuable
information on the female equine anatomy and the challenges of the reproduction system of the horse. Harvey teaches how to verify pregnancy of the mare, presenting endometriosis and hormonal balance. Harvey will also discuss topics with problem mares, such as air suckers, DUC's and urine pooling. Indicators of the foaling process, including colostrum and merconium, will also be covered. The class covers all other factors leading to the safe delivery of your newest foal.
