A number of Northeast Iowa Community College Calmar campus students have won recognition at the State Post-secondary Agriculture Students (PAS) conference and competition.
Katie Steinlage, a second-year Associate in Science-Pre-Veterinary Medicine/Dairy Science student at the NICC Calmar campus, was elected to serve as president of the organization. Steinlage will travel across the state to
promote the PAS organization, encouraging high school students to get involved in PAS in college. Her selection as PAS president follows another accomplishment in August 2008, when Steinlage was elected Iowa Dairy Princess.
Also at the conference six NICC Calmar students competed in the College Bowl, Crop Specialist and Dairy Job Interview events and brought home 13 total awards. NICC's five-member College Bowl team, which included Dereck Buddenberg of Castalia and Robert Quinnel of Spring Grove, won first place in the competition. Buddenberg also won a gold medal in the Crop Specialist competition, while Quinnel won a silver medal.
