A just-released report by the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute ranks Winneshiek County as the second healthiest county of the 99 counties in Iowa. Only Sioux county in northwestern Iowa is ranked higher than Winneshiek County.
The report, which can be viewed at http://www.countyhealthrankings.org/iowa/winneshiek, says Winneshiek County has better-than-average rates of physical health, mental health and social factors.
However, the report also noted higher than average rates of chlamydia and binge drinking and reported that 13 percent of adults in Winneshiek County did not have health insurance.
