Bike trail will cross Highway 9 near Highway 52

Members of the committee working on the completion of the Trout run Trail say it's more and more likely they'll recommend a bridge be built near Highway 52 to cross over Highway 9.

The 28E Committee had been studying a number of proposals for ways to get bike riders across Highway 9, including a bridge midway in the block, near The Oaks Restaurant. But committee members say there was a significant cost difference to that approach, as well as some difficult logistics.

City engineer Lindsay Erdman says "we're not 100 percent set (on the bridge near Highway 52), but we're working on it."

The crossing over (or under) Highway 9 will be the last significant piece of the construction of the 11-mile loop around Decorah. Trout Run Trail supporters still need to do additional fundraising for the highway crossing--depending on which option is chosen.
