An American flag that flew over the Pentagon is now flying over Winneshiek Medical Center. Decorah resident Rich Gaard, who is a deputy legislative assistant to former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Peter Pace, donated the flag to hospital. Gaard and his wife, Carol, said: "We wanted to bestow this honor to the men and women who serve our country and felt Winneshiek Medical Center was an appropriate location to display the flag
