A half dozen members of a citizens group interested in sustainability issues met with Winneshiek County supervisors on Monday morning.
The group, led by Carolyn Corbin and Andy Johnson, presented information in support of their request for county funding of the sustainability plan. The plan looks for ways to get county residents to reduce their energy consumption.
"That's sort of ambitious," said supervisor John Logsdon. Supervisor Bill Ibanez replied that supporters of the sustainability plan see it as a way to get beyond the talking stage. County Board Chairman Dean Darling said county officials already knew of several ideas to save money on energy costs--but don't have the money to implement them.
Corbin told supervisors her group wanted the county "to be partners and players in this process." She said, "by the planning process itself, some solutions can come forward."
Following a 40-minute discussion, the county board took no official action on the presentation.
