One thing I like about working with websites is how quickly the field is always changing. That forces you to always keep educating yourself about new developments. It also makes you more responsive to reader comments.
We've gotten several e-mails from readers recently that have dealt with the decorahnews.com website design itself, as opposed to the stories we post on it. Some of those e-mails asked about our practice of putting a posting date underneath each news story.
We post the majority of our news stories between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays. We had been putting a posting date of the next day, which, we admit, was a little confusing for the growing number of people who read our website in the evening and find they are reading "Posted Thursday, February 4th" when it is 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 3rd.
Besides, although we post the majority of our news stories between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., we now add news stories several times a day. In fact, we added news stories to decorahnews.com at 21 different times during the past week.
That has led us to start putting posting times on our news stories, in addition to the date. But we're wondering about your reaction. Does this make sense? Is this all too confusing? Or do you not care?
We need your feedback! We'd appreciate it if you took a couple of minutes to respond to our latest reader survey. If, when you're finished, you'd like to make some additional comments, you can always e-mail us at: news@decorahnews.com.
