The Raptor Resource Project is making a number of eagle cam improvements for the 2010 nesting season. The group has replaced old cameras, installing a microphone, and adding live video and live audio.
Raptor Resource Project spokesperson Bob Anderson says the bald eagles are starting to court and are bringing sticks and various nesting materials to the nest. Visits by the adult eagles to the nest are increasing daily.
To access the Decorah Bald Eagle camera and many other bird cams, go to www.luther.edu/eaglecam/. Click on Nest Viewer/Bird Cam at the top center of the page.
Anderson says the project is possible thanks to cooperative land owners, Luther College's web hosting and technical staff, Sims Electronics' technical staff, and an equipment grant from the Upper Iowa Audubon. He says Neil Rettig, Dave Kester and Amy Ries (Jirak) also worked on the nest tree.
Anderson says the group is still working to correct occasional stoppages of the camera/computer system. "We are all working as hard as we can to make this an exciting website, so we hope you can forgive the occasional technical glitch," says Anderson.
