Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department does check-up on registered sex offenders

The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department and the U.S. Marshal's Service has finished a check of registered sex offenders living and working in Winneshiek County.

The two-day verification reviewed employment and residency information for the 21 registered sex offenders living and working in Winneshiek County. 20 of those were verified as in compliance with state laws. One female registrant who lives in Minnesota had been listed as working in Winneshiek County, but she no longer was working in the county. Failing to notify authorities of the change is a violation of Iowa law. The case has been turned over to sheriff's deputies for further investigation.
