What issues do Winneshiek County Democrats care about? That question was put to the people attending the Winneshiek county Democratic Party caucus meetings last week at eight locations--North Winn School, Ridgeway Peace Lutheran Church, Madison Lutheran Church, Calmar Community United Methodist Church, Ft. Atkinson Community, Ossian Community Center Frankville Presbyterian Church, and the Decorah Senior Center.
Attendees were asked to fill out a survey prioritizing the issues that local people beleive need to be addressed.
On the national level, the issues identified were "War and Peace," "The Economy," "Health Care," "Immigration Law Reform" and "The Environment."
On the state level the issues identified were "The Environment," "Education," "Agricultural Policy," "Voter Owned Iowa Clean Elections (Voice) for campaign finance reform," "Human Rights," "Protecting the Iowa Supreme Court Marriage equality ruling" and "Improving the Bottle and Container Bill."
A few resolutions were also proposed, discussed and sent on to the County Convention. The issues addressed were adopting voter owned clean election laws for Iowa, supporting local control for locating of animal confinements and labeling of genetically modified foods as in done in European countries and many other countries.
