The Winneshiek County Board voted 3-2 Monday to approve an ordinance to not maintain future subdivision roads in the county.
Supervisors Dean Darling, Steve Bouska and John Logsdon approved the ordinance, with Les Askelson and Bill Ibanez opposing it.
Several Winneshiek County developers told county supervisors that subdivision residents pay county property taxes, so it's not fair to pass an ordinance saying streets in subdivisions platted and recorded after January 6th of 1970 would not be part of Winneshiek County's road system.
County supervisors say the move is necessary because of the current budget crisis.
