Winneshiek County Development, Inc. on Monday recognized Bruening Rock Products and Northeast Iowa Community College for the impact they have on the local economy.
Founded in 1932, Bruening Rock Products recently joined Mathy Construction of La Crosse and Croell Redi-Mix of New Hampton in acquiring the assets of the former Knife River Corporation's Decorah and southern Minnesota facilities. Bruening Rock Products now employs about 375 people.
Founded in 1966, Northeast Iowa Community College now employs about 325 people. The school is in the midst of a $35 million new construction and renovation project at its Calmar and Peosta campuses--a project which included the complete renovation of the Calmar Industrial Technologies Building.
Also recognized Monday by WCDI were Draz Athletics of Decorah, which builds athletic training products, including the Weighted Agility Glove; www.fishdecorah.com, which promotes water recreation in Winneshiek County and surrounding areas; Winneshiek Mutual Insurance of Decorah, founded in 1877, which insures farms and homeowners in Winneshiek and surrounding counties; and former WCDI President Kerri Johanningmeier, who served back-to-back terms as board president, beginning her tenure in the fall of 2007 and ending it in fall of 2009.
