If your family income falls within the low to moderate range or if you are disabled or elderly, trained and certified volunteers in Decorah can help you file your returns for free.
The Northeast Iowa Retired Senior Volunteer Program is operating the "Volunteer Income Tax Assistance" program. Volunteers are trained to prepare basic tax returns using forms 1040EZ, Form 1040A or basic Form 1040 Federal tax returns. They will also make sure that you claim any tax credits that may be due you such as the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Tax Credit.
Returns will be filed electronically. Any tax refunds usually can be deposited within two weeks. Taxpayers who do not have a bank account but would like to file electronically are encouraged to visit a local bank to set up a free checking or savings account.
Tax services will be provided by appointment only at the Decorah Public Library. If you would like to make an appointment, call (563) 380-4321.
