Winneshiek County supervisors on Monday were unable to agree on the details of a proposed new ban on accepting maintenance of subdivision streets.
County officials say their highway budget is stretched to the limit. "We can't maintain what we have," says County Engineer Lee Bjerke.
State law sets the amount of money counties can levy for road purposes. That has prompted Winneshiek County supervisors to draft an ordinance saying they will no longer add new streets to the list of streets the county maintains.
Supervisors discussed High Point East, Plantation Subdivision, Kylie Ann Subdivision and Woodland Acres on Monday, but were unable to agree on how to handle developer requests to add streets to the county's maintenance list. Supervisors will resume their discussion next Monday, January 25th, at 2:00 p.m.
