Plans have been announced for the first annual Decorah Ice Bowl disc golf tournament at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 24th to raise food and money for First Lutheran Food Pantry in Decorah.
The website www.discdan.com is organizing the event. It's part of a national effort to have fun, raise funds and food for local food banks and other charities, and to better integrate disc golf into the community.
The tournament will be held at Luther College's disc golf course. Cost to participate is $5, but players are being asked to bring three non-perishable food items as well. Format for play is two nine-hole single rounds with a short break between. There are four different divisions to enter: youth, women, men intermediate, and men advanced. Prizes will be given to winners in each division. Under no circumstances will the Ice Bowl be canceled or postponed due to weather conditions.
"This event is intended for people of all ages and skill levels. We're trying to do something good for the community while also finding a fun activity to participate in during the cold, winter months." said Dan Bellrichard, organizer of the event.
Only advanced registration for the Decorah Ice Bowl will be accepted. First-time players are welcome. For registration, details, or to get questions answered, go to www.discdan.com.
