Still more reader response on a sledding hill for Decorah

Posted: Mon, Jan 11, 2010 8:00 AM

Last week decorahnews.com reader Ted Sojka suggested the former Nor-Ski ski hill should be used as a sledding hill.

That prompted this e-mail from Ellen Mc Donald:
"With all the emphasis on preventing obesity in children, this seems like a perfect time to establish a sledding hill. I'm thinking back to wonderful times in my childhood, tramping back up the hill for the joy of one more run. Congratulations to Ted Sojka for bringing this up."

Speaking of Ted Sojka, he e-mailed this update: "The first comment I received after you published my letter was very favorable from the president of Luther, who also reminded me to mention that across from the college barn, students and others sled down the hill that is part of the Disc Golf course.

I also loved the video on line with photos of Nor Ski as recent at 2001. Several people have stopped me on the street to share memories of the taking their children out to the facility and to tell me they think it is a great idea. I mentioned that it would not take much to open the hill, a road plowed by a grader, a tank of gas, and someone reminded me of the need for porta-potties for the six weeks of an average season.

If anyone has some additional ideas on how to get this idea moving along, please contact me by contacting tedsojka@hotmail.com and thanks to you all who have already given me positive comments.
